The Flâneuse and The City #7
What's going on in Manchester this September - what to do, where to shop, eat, drink and much more!
We hope your September is off to a beautiful start! For us, September feels more like the beginning of a new year than January ever does. There is a special kind of excitement that comes with the change in seasons and the promise of a fresh start. No other month motivates us to get organised and be productive quite like September.
We recently returned from a magical few weeks in Italy, and we're feeling more refreshed and inspired than ever! Get ready for a wave of exciting new content in the coming months, including the launch of our Sunday Club newsletter, an interview series, travel guides, events, and much more.
Girls Want Workshops
We’re back in hobby season gals! Autumn practically calls for workshops—it’s the perfect time to dive into a new hobby, especially one that can carry you through the winter. It’s a great way to stay busy, be creative, meet new people, and spend your evenings doing something other than staring at a screen (though trust us, we’ll be firing up Gilmore Girls pretty soon, and we can’t wait!). Here’s our curated list of workshops to get stuck into this month.

What We’re Shopping
Autumn is hands down our favourite season for fashion. We get very excited to bring out our trench coats and boots—though as we’re writing this, it feels like we just packed them away. As you know, we love to shop, and this season we’re seeing a lot of suede, studs, and brown/burgundy tones. Think oversized suede jackets, brown knitwear and studs on all accessories. Ballet flats also seem to be sticking around, though their practicality in Manchester is questionable. We’re on the hunt for the perfect pair of silver loafers—metallics, in all forms, are always a hit for the A/W season, and we’ll be rocking plenty of silver again this year. Leopard and snake prints are having a major moment right now. We recently snagged a stunning pair of straight-leg snake print jeans from Zara, and we can’t wait to style them with everything!

Our go-to for A/W jackets is Sylk Store—an expertly curated unisex premium vintage and designer shop, with a focus on minimal, timeless pieces. Whether you’re after a trench, blazer, or suede jacket, Sylk Store has you covered. You can either book a personal shopping appointment or attend one of their monthly open days. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed. The racks are FULL of beautiful vintage finds sourced from all over the world. Their next open days are Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th September, from 11am-4pm. If you're looking to refresh your wardrobe for the season, Sylk Store is a must-visit.

Another brand we adore, especially when it comes to A/W, is Sisterhood. They nail the season every year, with timeless, thoughtfully crafted pieces that become wardrobe staples. These are the kinds of clothes you’ll wear forever. The quality is exceptional, and each style is designed to be effortless while making you feel confident and beautiful in your own skin. Sisterhood also takes responsibility for reducing their environmental impact. By using low-impact fabrics and fibres, they ensure their pieces have longevity, not just in design but in quality too. So, you can look and feel gorgeous while supporting a small, sustainable local business.

Where to Eat & Drink
We recently visited the new Caravan Restaurant in the creative hub of St. John's, and we’re already eager to return! The menu offers a diverse selection, ranging from pizzas to well-traveled small plates, sharing plates, and sides. We sampled the Garam Masala Labneh, Steamed Cod Dumplings, Jamón and Smoked San Simón Croquettes, Charred Hispi Cabbage, Coconut Red Curry, and Milk Chocolate Crémeux.
The standout dishes were the Charred Hispi Cabbage—the fusion of den miso and Stilton is a match made in heaven—and the Coconut Red Curry, which was bursting with flavour and so comforting that we’d come back just for that. And then there’s the Milk Chocolate Crémeux with pistachio crumb, olive oil, and salt—simply divine. We paired it all with a bottle of Luberon Rosé, Famille Perrin, the perfect match for the meal.
Afterwards, we enjoyed a post-dinner cocktail at The Refuge called "24 Hours in Paris," which was truly delicious. We highly recommend trying it on your next visit!
